Selected Supplies Zambia has great news to share – they are opening a new retreading facility in Lusaka!

Selected Supplies is ready to make far-reaching changes to the trucking industry with the announcement of its pioneering procedures for a front-line retreading facility in Lusaka, Zambia. We are excited to grow our tyre operations into the retread market, with our retreading facility planned to start official production by July 2024. This new state-of-the-art retreading facility will be located right next to our headquarters at South Park Mall and will showcase a vital stride in our goal to provide complete cradle-to-grave tyre solutions to our customer base.

“Selected Supplies has always believed in adding value to our customer’s business, leading to the decision to invest in retreading in the Zambia space. With extensive retreading experience in Mozambique, we can now offer further value in the tyre life cycle whilst creating an additional 12 jobs. We are also working on introducing Tyre Management Software, which would be the last step for complete cradle-to-grave tyre management for our customer base.” Said, General Manager Arie Blomerus.

A retreading facility is a specialized facility where worn-out tyres are refurbished by applying a new tread to the tyre casing. This process involves removing the old, worn tread, inspecting the casing for any damage or defects, and then applying a new layer of tread using specialized machinery and techniques. It’s commonly used in commercial trucking and fleet operations where tyres undergo significant wear and tear. Additionally, retreading can improve tyre performance and safety when done properly by skilled technicians using quality materials.

Here are some benefits of retreading your tyres:

Cost-effectiveness: Retreading tyres can significantly reduce operating costs compared to purchasing new tyres. The cost of retreading is generally lower than the cost of buying new tyres, making it an attractive option for commercial fleets and businesses looking to manage expenses.

Extended Tyre Life: Retreading extends the life of tyres by replacing the worn tread with a new layer. This process allows tyres to be reused multiple times, maximizing their lifespan and value.

Conservation of Resources: Retreading conserves valuable natural resources by reducing the demand for new tyre production. Since the tyre casing is reused, fewer raw materials are needed for manufacturing new tyres, leading to the conservation of rubber, oil, and other resources.

Environmental Sustainability: Retreading contributes to environmental sustainability by reducing the number of tyres that end up in landfills. Tyres are a significant source of waste and can take hundreds of years to decompose. Retreading helps mitigate this environmental impact by giving tyres a second life.

Energy Savings: The retreading process consumes less energy compared to manufacturing new tyres from scratch. By reusing existing tyre casings and only applying a new tread layer, retreading requires less energy-intensive processes, such as tyre construction and vulcanization.

Customization: Retreading allows for the customization of tread patterns and compounds based on specific vehicle requirements and operating conditions. This customization can improve traction, fuel efficiency, and overall tyre performance, enhancing safety and productivity.

Quality Assurance: Reputable retreading facilities adhere to strict quality control standards to ensure that retreaded tyres meet or exceed performance and safety requirements. Properly retreaded tyres undergo rigorous inspection and testing processes to identify any defects and ensure their reliability on the road. Selected Supplies takes great pride in the quality of the products we provide, and retreading will be no exception.
