Sedna Africa has started installing a private mobile network at the Port of Beira, in partnership with the Beira Terminal Operator, Cornelder de Moçambique

To strengthen safety, efficiency, and the digitalization of our port operations, we at Cornelder de Moçambique (CdM) have started installing a private mobile network at the Port of Beira, in partnership with tech company Sedna Africa and multinational Nokia.

In recent years, as the concessionaire of the general cargo and container terminals at the Port of Beira, they have continuously introduced new digital systems to enhance their operations’ efficiency, including several in-house solutions developed by their own technology team.

To ensure the continuity of our digital transformation, they found it essential to strengthen bandwidth and communication reliability, as the connectivity solutions they were using had become unstable and no longer suited to the demands of a modern port.

They therefore decided to install a private LTE network, capable of securely connecting all their workers, vehicles, and equipment operating at the Port of Beira.

This new connectivity solution responds to their critical need for a modern infrastructure capable of supporting real-time industrial applications, process automation, and reliable communications across the entire operational area.

“The Port of Beira is a strategic hub for regional trade. Its modernization requires robust technological platforms that allow us to innovate continuously. With this new infrastructure, we’ve created the conditions to evolve further, develop our own solutions, and make fast decisions based on reliable data, while also ensuring the safety of our workers and assets,” says Jan De Vries, the Executive Managing Director at Cornelder de Moçambique.

This dedicated private network will allow them to significantly expand the use of digital applications across all operational areas, preparing the port for the next stage of their technological evolution.

Among the innovations they are introducing is Terminal Flow, a system developed by their own team that will soon coordinate all port operations to boost productivity, improve efficiency, and reduce carbon emissions.

The network is currently being installed and should be fully operational in the coming months, directly impacting the efficiency of our terminals and the safety of our operations.
