Rennies Unveils Smart Weighbridges to Enhance Efficiency in Walvis Bay

Rennies Consolidated has launched cutting-edge digital weighbridges at its facility in Walvis Bay. Situated at the former container depot on Hanna Mupetami Road, this significant investment aims to improve cargo verification, boost operational efficiency, and ensure compliance across the board.

Samuel Shoopala, General Manager of Rennies Consolidated, shared that the decision to invest in new weighbridges aligns with the company’s long-term vision. “This initiative is all about enhancing service delivery and accuracy while meeting transport regulations. It marks a strategic advancement in our journey toward improved infrastructure and innovation,” Shoopala explained.

The Rennies Depot’s proximity to essential transport routes and logistics hubs facilitates seamless integration into existing operations. This enhancement also makes it easier for both clients and partners to access the facility. What distinguishes these weighbridges is their advanced technology; equipped with digital sensors and real-time data capture, the systems automate weighing and reporting processes, reducing manual tasks and enhancing safety and reliability.

“The digital system minimizes queuing, boosts throughput, and decreases the need for manual intervention,” Shoopala pointed out. “We’ve already witnessed significant improvements, such as managing bulk-to-breakbulk operations with 24 fewer personnel, translating into substantial cost savings.”

In addition to saving costs, the weighbridges enhance safety for drivers and staff, help prevent overloading, and support accurate billing and planning. Clients benefit directly from quicker processing and increased transparency. On a larger scale, this investment addresses regional logistics demands. With improved throughput and reliable data, the weighbridges facilitate smoother cargo movements and foster better coordination among stakeholders.

“This strengthens the supply chain beyond just Rennies and contributes to a more competitive, efficient logistics sector in the region,” added Shoopala.

The project was spearheaded by the operations team, in collaboration with strategic partners. Special recognition goes to Operations Director Patrick Kohlstaedt and Business Support & Improvement Manager Mark Dafel, along with support from the Manica Group Namibia management.

With the weighbridges now operational, Rennies Consolidated views this as another milestone in its quest to deliver smarter, safer logistics solutions. “We appreciate our clients and stakeholders for their continued trust. This achievement reflects our shared commitment to growth, transparency, and innovation,” concluded Shoopala.
