Proflight Zambia has achieved a big milestone by being registered on the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) Registry; it is the only airline in Zambia to have the globally recognized safety accreditation.
The accomplishment ranks Proflight Zambia in the group of airlines globally that can fulfill the internationally recognized standards of IATA on the safety of its operations and management. The IOSA programme is seen as the international reminder of the good practice in the safety of airlines, and the audits are done on a biannual basis to ensure that the airlines have not compromised the stringent safety standards.
The IOSA audit is an intensive procedure that focuses on the management and control systems of an airline as regards flight operations, aircraft maintenance, ground handling, security, and safety management systems, amongst others. Being registered in the IOSA Registry will identify that Proflight Zambia is conducting its business in accordance with the IATA Standards and Recommended Practices (ISARPs).
Talking about success, Proflight Zambia Director – Safety, Quality, Security and IT, Mr Kenneth Sunga Silavwe, stated that the registration demonstrates the excellent emphasis of the airline on safety, operation excellence.
We have and will always have safety as our priority, Mr Silavwe said. The IOSA audit is a sign of professionalism of our teams, their commitment, and discipline. The listing on the IOSA Registry will confirm our safety management systems and support our reputation as a reliable airline in the area.
The IOSA registration is globally acknowledged as one of the indicators of the safety performance of airlines. The number of accidents that airlines on the IOSA Registry reported is also lower than that of non-registered carriers, which is the indicator of the efficiency of the IOSA framework to enhance operational safety and risk management.
Other than safety, the accreditation has serious strategic benefits on Proflight Zambia. Regarding the IOSA registration, it improves the credibility of the airline in the international aviation market and helps to maintain the constant increase in the efficiency and reliability of their operations.
Mr Silavwe also observed that the success also opens new opportunities to the expansion and regional integration of the airline.
The registration of IOSA is not merely risking the international standards, he said. It increases credibility in the market, boosts operational performance and confidence of passengers. It also provides possibilities of interline alliances and codeshare relations with the world carriers, enhancing the connectivity to, in, and out of Zambia.
The accreditation will produce an effect of increased passenger confidence since the passengers will be more inclined to access safety standards when selecting an airline. It also makes Proflight Zambia a company of choice by international airlines that would wish to extend their destinations to Southern Africa.
Being the sole airline to be registered under IOSA, Proflight Zambia has been maintaining the standards of safety in aviation in the country. The milestone highlights how the airline has a long-term commitment to provide safe, reliable and efficient air transport and contribute to tourism, trade and economic development within the country of Zambia and the region.
Having undergone the IOSA registration process, Proflight Zambia is part of a larger group of airlines across the world who are known to have safety as a central theme in their processes.
