January/March 2025 Edition

Staff Reporter

Dear Readers,

Welcome to our January/March 2025 edition! In this issue, we cover a variety of topics, including developing issues, regional matters, and the Lobito Corridor. We are particularly excited to highlight the 4th Annual Land-Linked Zambia (LLZ) Conference and Exhibition, which is scheduled to take place in Lusaka Province, Zambia. This year’s conference theme is “Embracing SMART Transport Corridors.” This theme serves as a call to action for SADC member countries to explore transport corridors and business partnerships both within and beyond Zambia, especially in light of the African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement (AfCFTA), aimed at facilitating the seamless movement of goods and services.

We also featured the Lobito Corridor Project, which is currently under development. This project is poised to drive Zambia’s economic transformation by positioning the country as a hub for electric vehicle (EV) battery production and assembly. The Lobito Corridor is a strategic trade route that links Angola’s port city of Lobito to the mineral-rich regions of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Zambia’s Copperbelt Province. It is expected to enhance the efficiency of transporting goods and services across the region. The abundance of critical minerals in these areas, which are vital for the global energy transition, makes the Lobito Corridor a key trade facilitator between Africa, the Americas, and Europe.

We hope you enjoy this edition!

Regards,

Gladys
