The national airline Air Congo has officially announced the launch of new international flights to several African capitals starting in March 2026. This marks an important step in the airline’s regional expansion and shows its strong commitment to connecting the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) with more destinations across the continent.
According to the company, the first international routes will begin on March 22, 2026. On that day, Air Congo will start flying to Johannesburg, South Africa, and Entebbe, Uganda. A few days later, on March 28, flights will begin to Douala, Cameroon, and Cotonou, Benin. Finally, starting April 4, 2026, the airline will add Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, to its growing network.
These routes will be operated with Airbus aircraft. The airline recently received its third aircraft on February 1, strengthening its fleet and increasing its operational capacity to meet growing demand in the sub-region. The expansion is expected to improve travel for business people, tourists, and families across Africa.
Air Congo was established as a joint venture between the Government of the DRC, which holds 51 percent of the shares, and Ethiopian Airlines, which holds 49 percent during the launch phase. The partnership combines local ownership with international aviation expertise.
At the start of its operations, Air Congo used two Boeing 737-800 aircraft to serve major Congolese cities, including Lubumbashi, Goma, Kisangani, Kolwezi, Kalemie, and Mbuji-Mayi. The airline currently operates three Boeing aircraft and generates nearly USD 40 million in revenue, reflecting steady growth in a short period.
During the official ceremony attended by President Félix Tshisekedi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Jean-Pierre Bemba announced plans to further expand the fleet. He pledged that the airline will add four additional Boeing 737-800 aircraft within one year and two more within the next two years.
With another aircraft expected soon, bringing the fleet to four, Air Congo is positioning itself as a strong regional carrier ready to support trade, tourism, and economic growth across Africa.
