ZW Vehicle Group Targets Africa’s Growing Demand for Heavy-Duty Equipment

Africa’s expanding logistics, mining and infrastructure sectors are creating a growing need for reliable trucks, trailers and construction machinery. Among the companies seeking to meet this demand is China’s Shandong ZW Vehicle Group Co., Ltd., an exporter of commercial vehicles and heavy equipment to markets across Africa.

Established in 2014 and headquartered in Jinan, China, ZW Vehicle Group supplies a wide range of transport equipment, including heavy-duty trucks, semi-trailers, tankers and construction machinery. The company says its products are supplied to more than 100 countries, with Africa among its key international markets.

Rather than focusing on one category of vehicle, ZW has developed a broad portfolio designed for different industries.

Trucks for Africa’s transport and industrial sectors

The company’s truck range includes vehicles from brands such as HOWO, SHACMAN, FAW, Foton and Beiben. Products include tractor trucks, dump trucks, fuel tankers, water tankers, concrete mixer trucks, cargo trucks and truck-mounted cranes.

These vehicles serve a variety of applications. Tractor trucks can be paired with different trailers for long-distance freight, while dump trucks are suited to construction, mining and quarrying. Tanker trucks support fuel and water distribution, while concrete mixers are used in construction projects.

ZW has reported deliveries to several African markets, including Nigeria, Tanzania, Burkina Faso, Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Semi-trailers form another important part of the company’s African offering.

ZW supplies flatbed, skeletal, lowbed, dump and specialised trailers, as well as fuel, chemical and cement tankers. These products are designed for transporting everything from shipping containers and general cargo to heavy machinery and industrial materials.

This equipment has an important role in Africa’s freight network. Containers arriving at ports must be moved inland, mining equipment needs to reach remote sites,s and construction materials have to be transported between suppliers and projects.

In West Africa, for example, ZW has reported supplying HOWO tractor heads alongside flatbed and dump semi-trailers for customers in Burkina Faso and Côte d’Ivoire.

Equipment for mining and construction

Africa’s mining and infrastructure sectors are also creating opportunities for heavy-equipment suppliers.

ZW’s portfolio includes excavators, wheel loaders, bulldozers, graders, backhoes and forklifts, with machinery associated with manufacturers such as Caterpillar, Komatsu, Doosan, Hitachi, Hyundai, Sany and LiuGong.

The company has also highlighted deliveries of heavy-duty dump trucks to the Democratic Republic of Congo, where mining and construction activities require vehicles capable of handling demanding working conditions.

New and refurbished vehicles

ZW also provides refurbished trucks and machinery, presenting an alternative for businesses aiming to manage their fleet acquisition expenses. The company operates a facility spanning over 50,000 square meters dedicated to refurbishment. According to the company, used vehicles from reputable brands such as Hino, Volvo, Mercedes-Benz, HOWO, and SHACMAN undergo thorough inspection and refurbishment before export.

This approach can appeal to African transport and construction companies looking to expand their fleets while managing capital expenditure.

Looking beyond vehicle sales

Africa’s logistics industry is changing as trade corridors, ports, mining projects and infrastructure developments expand. That growth requires not only roads and ports, but also the vehicles and machinery that keep those systems operating.

ZW Vehicle Group is positioning itself within this wider equipment ecosystem, supplying trucks for freight, trailers for cargo, tankers for industrial products and machinery for construction and mining.

Its growing activity across African markets reflects the wider demand for heavy-duty equipment capable of supporting the continent’s movement of goods, natural resources and infrastructure development.

For ZW, the opportunity in Africa extends beyond selling individual trucks. It is about becoming part of the equipment backbone supporting the continent’s increasingly connected transport, mining and construction economy.
