MSC Houston: Longest container ship to dock at the Port of Beira in Mozambique

MSC Houston, the longest container ship ever to docked at the Port of Beira, berthed, June 12th. The vessel, flying the Portuguese flag, leaves our port today and sails to neighbouring South Africa.

With a capacity of 4,500 TEUS and its dimensions, the MSC Houston is the second Post Panamax ship to dock at the Port of Beira, after the Wide Juliet, 255 meters long, docked in June 2020.

In recent years, the Port of Beira has seen significant growth in containerized cargo and more, as a result of the aggressive commercial strategy that CdM has been developing in the region’s markets, as well as continued investment in improving accessibility to the port, acquisition of modern handling equipment, expansion of storage areas, the introduction of new technologies and systems to optimize operations, factors that contribute to improving port performance, giving greater confidence to customers and users.

The investments made in dredging to deepen the access channel, manoeuvring basin, and berths have also been decisive in enabling ships of the Panamax and Post Panamax typology, with large cargo capacity, to call at Beira more regularly.
