Transport Minister Tayali Calls The Us$270 Million World Bank Grant For Transport Improvement Between Zambia And Tanzania A Positive Act.

Zambia erupts with optimism as the World Bank approves a US$270 million grant for a game-changing project. Transport Minister Museba Frank Tayali hails it as a “shot in the arm” for the economy, aligning perfectly with Zambia’s vision of becoming a regional transport and logistics hub. This six-year Transport Corridors for Economic Resilience (TRACER) project promises a brighter future for Zambia and the entire region.

TRACER focuses on the Dar es Salaam Corridor, vital for the Zambia-Tanzania trade, but its impact ripples outwards. Upgraded infrastructure like the Serenje-Mpika road and a One Stop Border Post at Nakonde will streamline movement, slashing travel times and costs for traders. Advanced technology for real-time traffic management (SMART Corridor) will further boost safety and efficiency.

But the benefits extend beyond mere movement. TRACER tackles long-standing challenges: inadequate infrastructure, cumbersome trade procedures, and inefficient logistics. By addressing these, it unlocks a wave of opportunities. Regional trade will flourish, opening new markets for businesses and farmers. Job creation across various sectors will inject fresh energy into local economies. This, in turn, has the potential to lift millions out of poverty, improving livelihoods across Zambia and neighboring countries like Tanzania, DRC, Malawi, and beyond.

TRACER is more than just a project; it’s a promise. A promise of smoother trade, more jobs, and a brighter future for millions. As Minister Tayali says, “This is a significant commitment to regional trade and transportation…paving the way for a more robust and sustainable economic future.” With TRACER at the helm, Zambia and its neighbors can truly start driving towards a shared vision of prosperity.
