Qatar Airways Group has acquired a 25% stake in Airlink, a leading independent regional carrier in Southern Africa. This move is part of Qatar Airways’ goal to expand its operations across the African continent. Airlink serves over 45 destinations in 15 African countries, and this investment will enhance the partnership between the two airlines, leading to increased connectivity.

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, expressed the airline’s confidence in Airlink and in the potential of Africa as a whole. He highlighted that the investment in Airlink demonstrates Qatar Airways’ commitment to the future of African aviation.

Airlink Chief Executive Rodger Foster shared that having Qatar Airways as an equity partner is a strong validation of Airlink and reflects their confidence in the markets they serve. This strategic investment aims to unlock growth opportunities by increasing efficiency, capacity, and marketing reach for Airlink.

Furthermore, this partnership aims to align the loyalty programs of both airlines, namely Qatar Airways Privilege Club and Airlink Skybucks. Qatar Airways currently operates flights to 29 destinations in Africa and has expanded its network with the addition of several new destinations since December 2020, demonstrating the airline’s commitment to the African market.
