In a significant move to bolster its operations in Africa, Hapag-Lloyd has reaffirmed and expanded its long-standing partnership with DP World, a global leader in logistics and port operations. This strategic alliance centers on securing long-term terminal capacity at five key terminals, which are vital for future growth in the region.
The partnership will target acquiring and improving terminal facilities in Dakar (Senegal), Luanda (Angola), and Dar es Salaam (Tanzania), along with developing essential port infrastructure in Banana (Democratic Republic of the Congo) and Maputo (Mozambique). This comprehensive collaboration aims to provide a solid foundation for Hapag-Lloyd’s sustained growth in Africa while simultaneously improving its service network across the continent.
Hapag-Lloyd is optimistic about its growth trajectory, projecting that its transport volumes in Africa will surpass one million TEU in 2026. With this ambitious goal in sight, the company is committed to continuously improving its network within Africa, emphasizing the importance of offering reliable services, adequate capacity, and maintaining exceptionally high quality standards for its customers.
Rolf Habben Jansen, CEO of Hapag-Lloyd AG, noted, “Africa represents one of Hapag-Lloyd’s most critical growth markets, and we recognize the substantial long-term potential that exists across the continent. To effectively support this growth, it is imperative that we have reliable infrastructure, adequate terminal capacity, and a scalable network that aligns with our customers’ evolving needs. By deepening our collaboration with DP World throughout Africa, we are making a pivotal move toward enhancing the foundations of our service offerings in the region.”
This expanded alliance with DP World is an integral component of Hapag-Lloyd’s wider terminal strategy. The company is dedicated to working with a diverse array of terminal operators to guarantee competitive, reliable, and flexible access to port and landside infrastructure. Furthermore, Hapag-Lloyd is poised to expand its own terminal operations through Hanseatic Global Terminals (HGT), in alignment with its long-term strategic objectives for growth and infrastructural development.
Through these efforts, Hapag-Lloyd aims to solidify its presence in Africa, fostering greater connectivity and efficiency in a market that is increasingly important to its global operations.
