Ethiopian Airlines is launching a new direct flight service from Addis Ababa to Port Louis, Mauritius on July 12, 2026. The move forms part of the airline’s initiative to boost air travel in Africa and boost the economic growth of the continent. The new flights will be three times a week, on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, making it easier for travellers to fly from East Africa to the beautiful island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean. These will be operated by Boeing 787 Dreamliner. As per the schedule, flight ET887 will take off from Addis Ababa at 08:50 and reach Mauritius at 15:20. The return flight, ET886, will leave Port Louis at 16:15 and come back to Addis Ababa at 20:45.
The new direct service reflects Ethiopian Airlines’ renewed interest in improving the connectivity across Africa and cultivating its relationship with the international market. The airline considers that this will boost tourism, foster trade and investment as well as cultural and business relations between Mauritius and other African nations.
Ethiopian Airlines are excited to make travel to Mauritius easier for travellers from across the continent, according to Group Chief Executive Officer Mesfin Tasew.
“It is with great excitement that we embark on this direct flight service to Mauritius which will make the island destination more accessible to Africans and other international tourists to visit this beautiful African Island destination while simultaneously enhancing business and trade opportunities,” he said.
Tasew also noted that expansion of the airline’s network in Africa is one such strategy being pursued to enhance relations between the various countries of the continent and with the rest of the world.
Ethiopian Airlines’ direct service follows a series of routes to Mauritius from other African destinations such as Antananarivo, Nairobi and Johannesburg. The non-stop service will drastically cut down travel time and give the passengers smoother connectivity via Ethiopia’s vast network. The addition of Mauritius to their routes further extends Ethiopian Airlines’ footprint all over Africa. The airline now operates to more than 160 destinations around the world for both passengers and cargo, and is one of the biggest and most influential airline groups on the continent.
The Company is also working on renewal of its fleet and network extension within the framework of its long-term Vision 2035 agenda to position Ethiopia in the top-20 airline groups in the world.It operates a modern fleet of Boeing 737, 777 and 787 aircraft, as well as De Havilland Q400 turboprops and Airbus A350-900 and A350-1000 jets.
